Bentleague Blog – 9/10/26 Match Recap

Lil Bougie and the Ball Busters2@Spin Seekers4

2026-09-106:00 PMcomplete

Line 1 · Singles

1ptMatt DeanvsDavid Parnell

7-6, 6-3

Lil Bougie and the Ball Busters

Swami's take:

So much for the feature match everyone was asking for.  Mark my words...this will come back to haunt Lil Boosie.  No Jack, No Eddie, No Russ in the top tier singles round.  Geez!  Kudos to that's Amore'. Continues hot streak against Parnell.  He wasn't pouting...but he sure was breathing hard.  Just wish SS would have went Shane, Mark, Tony...so I could have served up some humble pie to the MVP front runner.  Good win nonetheless.

Line 2 · Doubles

1ptRussell Anderson / Eddie BurdettevsShane McCarthy / Jay Butcher

6-4, 6-4

Spin Seekers

Swami's take:

Well.  There you go.  Attempt to secure both Line 1 and Line 2 by moving Russ down backfires on Ball Busters.  Or was..Captain Boosie hoping for a split.  Keep an eye on this SS duo...they are playing some really good tennis!  As Swami has stated previously...pack is catching up Russell.  Yes...you heard me right.  Russell.

Line 3 · Doubles

1ptJack Ellis / Mitch TuckervsMark Schneider / Tony Priola

6-3, 6-3

Swami's take: Believe it was 6-3, 6-2.  My bad Samurai...I know we should have served up a bagel in that 2nd set.  A little easier than Lil Nadal expected.  not often you can drop Jack four times without him getting to the ball.  Game plan executed to perfection...drop/lob combinations early had MDB's heart rate racing most of the match.  Who's next?

Line 4 · Doubles

1ptMike Lane / Jack BlossmanvsDavid Butler / Kevin Phayer

7-5, 7-6

Lil Bougie and the Ball Busters

Swami's take:

Two close sets, but close only works when you are pitching quarters at Gulf Coast Spirits with the UMoM.   Nice battle by our Butler and the scrappy squirrel.  Jaybo and Perticus Lane made the shots when they mattered most.  2nd Set Tie Breaker was a nail biter.  Congratulations Mikie on your demotion to line 4!

Line 5 · Doubles

1ptLowell Shih / Jason CattvsRay Brouillette / Javier Rodriguez

6-1, 6-4

Spin Seekers

Swami's take:  Cheaters never gain.  Well in this case...sacrifice at line 5 to win Line 6 gets you a label.  Hopefully just an honest mistake by the Ball Busters captain.  Or maybe it was just a quality test of Red Bull Robbie's No Sacrifice Rule coding on the Bentleague web site.  Either way...Super Ray Ray and JRod handled business.  Wonder how barely a vowel Shih and JCatt would have done at line 6.  Guess we'll never know.

Line 6 · Doubles

1ptMike Mesa / Doug AutinvsAnanth Desikacharlu / Joshua Clark

FORFEITED

6-2, 6-0

Spin Seekers

Swami's take:  Would have thought the cerbral Mesa may have noticed something strange when he was penciled in at Line 6.  Once a proud first round draft selection just happen to get a W is disappointing.  Time is undefeated has never been more accurate while witnessing this descent.  Not sure if this helps the Big I's winning percentage but at least it didn't hurt it.  Same for Josh!  Didn't expect Bogalusa Doug to realize the faux paux either...Gummies hinder a person's mathematic skills.

Crazy Eyed Starfish3@String Theory3

2026-09-107:00 PMcomplete

Line 1 · Singles

1ptEd DauterivevsMark Fair

6-3, 6-1

Crazy Eyed Starfish

Swami's take:

The Ego said he played well and lost 3 and 1. At least he suited up unlike the aforementioned threesome and Nick Max and Kobrock.  Mark looked a little disheveled coming off the court. And he passed on a work trip to come out and play for his team.  That is the kind of attitude that gets you to Nationals G-dollar sign.  Pass that on to Rudy too.

Line 2 · Doubles

1ptNick Thompson / Rudy P KalmanvsAddison Melancon / Chris Kobrock

6-4, 7-5

String Theory

Swami's take:  Kobrock loving these active partners at the net!  Off to his best start in Bentleague history.  Not sure if this ST duo take down Ed and Nick but nice to see I have to take a Kobrock win at line 1 doubles.  Think he was o'fer last year.  Another try and fail for Rudy.  Nick missing Monday's and partnering with the CoonAss.

Line 3 · Doubles

1ptJohn Allen / John HearnvsDonald Allen / Ronald Regouffre

3-6, 6-3

String Theory

Swami's take: Battle for Allen bragging rights on the line.  The Donald paired with crowd favorite Cheech Regouffre rose to the challenge but it was as easy as the score.  In fact, Swami thought JA anthe Hitman were winning most of the match.  Real question is, ...can JA bounce back after playing on the hard courts with such a short turnaround. May be a good time for him to get some much needed RR.  Swami sensed the tide changing when the Donald started mean mugging prior to his serve.  Like the Hulk...you don't want to make this guy mad.   Beware of the mean mug if you get a chance to play DA....not sure he can turn it on for everyone but he really wanted to beat his more popular brother.

Line 4 · Doubles

1ptJoey Dunbar / Ryan FourniervsRobby Economides / Alejandro Torres

6-2, 6-4

Crazy Eyed Starfish

Swami's take:

Another win by Dunbar.  Damn.  Wish someone would have told me about Sid's hearing problem prior to the draft.  Was wondering why he didn't listen to anything Shane and I told him.  Nice combination of finesse and power by the Starfish tandem.  Little too much for Red Bull Robbie and Gasolina Torres.  Thought Robbie could take advantage of Ryan at the net but evidently that didn't happen.  May have had a langauge barrier for Steve's twosome because I don't think Ale speaks red bull.

Line 5 · Doubles

1ptCayman Sinclair / Seth MonaghanvsBrad Humphreys / Hauke Bayer

6-2, 6-4

Crazy Eyed Starfish

Swami's take: As the ombudsman of Bentleague, I must tell it like it is and sometimes it pains me.  I'm really worried about Brad.  Oh'fer 2025/2026 in Bentleague continues.  Word on the street is that Belding played well.  Which means...well, you can assume.  Congrats to Chef Sinclair and Crazy Eyes himself.  At least this captain and one other are playing.  Put your tennis where your mouth is and suit up for goodness' sake.    I know the Cannon was dying for a win, but to let him play on his home court may have been a mistake.  Bubble Trouble was invented by the wolfman!  I'm pulling for a rebound Belding.  So is my wallet!

Line 6 · Doubles

1ptJeff St. Romain / Ernie AndersonvsKeith West / Wayne Songy

6-3, 7-6

String Theory

Swami's take: KW chalking up 2 straight wins after the debacle in match 1.  Wish I could have watched that 2nd set.  Looks like a nail biter.  Swami knows St. Ro has been playing great (of late), and you know the Patriarch won't give up free points.  So, way to rise to the occasion Wayne's World Songy and Wild Wild West.  Former teammates of BSS last year, something had to give.  Guessing it was St. Ro's consistency!

Totals

Lil Bougie = 11

Spin Seekers = 10

Starfish = 8

String Theory = 7

Synopsis to date:

Swami's Quick Observations (SQO):  Great effort by those who came out early to get the courts in shape.  Took some effort to get all matches in and the commissioner thanks you.  First transgression of the "no sacrifice" rule didn't go unnoticed.  Brought little Bougie back to the pack with SS's on their heals.  We have a early favorite for the pink hat this year and it may have been already decided.  Begging for a forfeit after a rain delay don't look good on you.  We are now in our 11th year, 12th season, and I have never witnessed a captain not play themselves an entire round.  Is that genius or a lack of confidence.  Won't be able to hide long, as the captain's round is coming.  Hoping we get that preseason promise of a Toups and Fair pairing realized.  Can't hurt Fair's winning percentage but may hurt his Ego if he starts out oh and four.  No one liked Seth's Draft day outfit (especially his mom), but the all-white ensemble was a good idea on paper as a rebirth but you should have waited until November.  Looked like a bad wet t-shirt contest once you returned from your match.  Still trying to get that image out of my head.

Quick turnaround this week with round 2, match 1 on Saturday.  For the rookies...this does not mean you have to stay home tonight.  Go have a few beers and take your wife or better half out for a rich dinner.   Don't blame Bentleague for trying to be cheap.  Round 2 should bring some interesting pairings to the courts.    Can't wait to see Kenny and Steve in action.  Or...will they save themselves till round 3.
