Bentleague Blog – 9/3/26 Match Recap

Spin Seekers3@String Theory3

Line 1 · Singles

1ptMark SchneidervsAddison Melancon

6-2, 1-6, 1-0

String Theory

Swami's take:  The Coonass Melancon may be the only guy in Bentleague faster than Samurai Schneider.  Dude is all bones and fast twitch. Eat a five guys burger every now and then will ya!  Scores seemed a little lop sided in the first two sets, but the points were spectator worthy and entertaining. Addi got him in the end with great mixture of off-speed slices and power, especially from the forehand side.

Line 2 · Doubles

1ptShane McCarthy / Tony PriolavsMark Fair / Donald Allen

6-3, 3-6, 1-0

Spin Seekers

Swami's take:

Another Bentleague victory for Lil Nadal over the Donald.  The Prince was blessed to have quick hands' Shano guarding the net.  Tone was set early with Lil Nadal's 90% success rate on his own form of Roger's SABR attack vs. the Ego's serve!   SS's weathered some errors in the 2nd set, and took the third with little fanfare.  SS's number 1 showed why he was number two overall in that TSTB.

Line 3 · Doubles

1ptGreg Gorden / Andrew McQuaidvsMax Agnew / Chris Kobrock

7-5, 6-0

String Theory

Swami's take:  Close first set yields to sloppy 2nd.  Not sure this is the best pairing for SS's.  But, you have to tip your hat to the ST duo.  "I have to take a" Kobrock may have found the net guy to compliment those heavy ground strokes.  When he's hitting the ball cleanly, Fabio Agnew knows how to finish'em at the net!  Need to see how these two respond in a close TSTB.  Swami sees some cracks that may be able to be exploited if the competition can make'em go three.

Line 4 · Doubles

1ptDavid Butler / Steven BurgessvsHal Nietzchman / Robby Economides

6-3, 6-4

Spin Seekers

Swami's take:

Our Butler continues to accel.  Swami likes the LA Tech guy too.  Pretty impressive victory against Red Bull Robbie and Hairy Hal.  Not often you take down Hal at line 4.  Jeckle and Hide Red Bull is always the wild card!  Good win SS.

Line 5 · Doubles

1ptJavier Rodriguez / Sid HauptmannvsRonald Regouffre / Brad Humphreys

6-3, 3-6, 1-0

Spin Seekers

Swami's take:  Damn, Brad loses again.  Oh for Bentleague in 2025 and 2026 to date.  SS captain is taking charge of the squad and leading by example.  JRod establishing himself as best 11th rounder in head-to-head against the Mouth of Mandeville.  Bet for a winning record for MoM not a sure thing by anyone's standards.

Line 6 · Doubles

1ptCJ Mehle / Joshua ClarkvsKeith West / Ross Doyle

2-6, 6-4, 1-0

String Theory

Swami's take:

Did Josh and CJ realy lose third after jumping out to a 7-2 lead?  ouch!  This one hurts.  Flag this one now captain, because if we lose the title by one, this one will haunt us. Tennis Karma is fickle.  KWest goes from outhouse to penthouse from one thursday to the next.  Sure will help him forget about those last three shots last week.  I think.  May need some practice on TSTB's.  No way someone should run off eight straight points.

Lil Bougie and the Ball Busters4@Crazy Eyed Starfish2

2026-09-037:00 PMcomplete

Line 1 · Singles

1ptMike LanevsJoey Dunbar

6-4

Crazy Eyed Starfish

Swami's take:  Another singles pairing without the marquee names.  What are the captains saving their best singles guys for?  Looking at the line ups these are not the best three for either team.  We have a skinny 5 with nice hair who can't run playing a 6 who has been working on his fitness, but by no means is in singles shape.  With only one to play, it is clear points will be left on the board for some of these decisions to "save" players.  Yea...I'm talking about Nick and Ed, and Russ and Jack!

Line 2 · Doubles

1ptRussell Anderson / Eddie BurdettevsNick Thompson / Rudy P Kalman

6-1, 0-6, 1-0

Lil Bougie and the Ball Busters

Swami's take:   Lil Boosie got the W here but lost out at line 1.  Russ and Ed are tough.  Ed not doing his captain any favors by coming into the season out of tennis shape and taking a vaycay in week 2.  No wonder why he dropped from 2nd overall to the 2nd round.  Can he stop downward spiral? Not sure about that 0-6 2nd set.  No points for sand bagging now Russ.

Line 3 · Doubles

1ptMitch Tucker / Jack EllisvsJohn Allen / John Hearn

6-3, 2-6, 1-0

Crazy Eyed Starfish

Swami's take: Hitman and JA looked sharp in that TSTB!  Heard that wasn't the case in set number 2 but nice match by all four players.  Tuck handled the clay better than expected (susceptible to drop lob combinations), and Jack can challenge Addi and Sly for quickest on court players.  In the end, Big John and the net and some consistency by the Hitman proved worthy of the W.

Line 4 · Doubles

1ptMatt Dean / Mark FerrervsDave McGuire / Ryan Fournier

6-3, 3-6, 1-0

Lil Bougie and the Ball Busters

Swami's take: Entertaining match on the show court.  Can't believe y'all didn't let Sundial go off first.  Dino vying for 2nd MVP with his new Rat Pack.  Can he live up to that "king of cool" reputation of his namesake?  Playing some of his best tennis that's for sure.  Complimented by FerrMagic  has LB captain smiling with recent success.  Swami (and everyone else) knows you have to get the Mayor of Mandeville into that third set to see some cracks.   Get these two early before Ryan figures out the doubles game.

Line 5 · Doubles

1ptJack Blossman / Garrett PhillippivsRobert Groeneveld / Keith Laterrade

6-4, 4-6, 1-0

Lil Bougie and the Ball Busters

Swami's take: Swami can pick out the guys who know how to win and GMoney and the Float Boat captain fall into that category.  Guys compete at a high level and won't beat themselves when the going gets tough.  This one probably surprised a few of the onlookers.  Not the Swami.  Sundial/LatterTide combo looks good on paper but won't earn you paper if you bet on them.

Line 6 · Doubles

1ptBurt Dalton / Lou BonnettvsWayne Durr / Seth Monaghan

4-6, 6-2, 1-0

Lil Bougie and the Ball Busters

Swami's take: This one had to hurt the Starfish Captain at his core.  You know he wants to be known as the best playing captain.  So far, the records to date don't support that claim.  Talk about a couple of steals from the draft...  Look no further than Sweet Lou at 17 and Burt at 10.  17 total point pairing at line 6 with Lou hitting the ball in and Burt on clay roaming the net!  Seth's walk in the park spoiled by excellent play from both Lil Bougie players.

Totals

Lil Bougie = 9

Spin Seekers = 6

Starfish = 5

String Theory =4

Swami Synopsis to date: It's early, but Swami believes a nervous breakdown is forthcoming if Steve's team doesn't rebound.  The Accountant's algorithm is in question of late.  Seth's bravado not supported by on court success to date.  Middle of the line up proving suspect as Swami predicted.  Will be interesting to see everyone get their four matches in know the key players can only play 11.  Line 6 winners get the same as line 1 winners (finally)!  Bottom tier falling into that swell head trap reading the press clippings.  Swami may have been playing head games with pre-season predictions knowing that the really talking happens on the courts with tennis shots!  Bring it, don't sing it!

Kendrick Lamar is among the best these young shits have to offer. Lyrics and songwriting of today are awful.
